5 Tips For Moving Into An Apartment

One may think that a move into an apartment is less of a hassle and easier on the budget. However, it can be more stressful and most often isn’t as easy on the moving company.

Apartment moving may require the use of stairs or an elevator. Many times, staircases are narrow and possibly hallways. This can make it even more difficult to carry heavy furniture up and down. But it can certainly be done.

Coastal Moving & Storage, a Pensacola moving, packing, loading, and storing company, has been helping customers in the Panhandle area since 1969 and has great advice for all types of moves. If you are moving into a Pensacola area apartment, there are 5 things you’ll want to keep in mind.

  1. Visit the apartments in person prior to the move and check the elevators and stairs.

Some elevators are smaller than you may think, and may not carry as heavy of a load as others. If this is true for the elevator in the apartment complex you are moving to, then the stairs may be the only option. Be sure to check with the property manager about the elevator capacity.

  2. Planning the moving date may center around apartment building rules.
  3. There could be a certain start and end time for an elevator or loading dock use when moving into an apartment. In some cases, they strictly enforce the elevator use window which means you may not be finished moving when the time runs out. Check with the property manager and find out if they have a schedule set for the elevator or loading dock use. If so, be sure to make your moving company aware of it.

  4. Ask questions of the apartment property manager. As about the building’s policies, any moving policies, elevator and loading dock policies, restrictions about days of week to move in, and what day the trash is picked up so dumpster trucks don’t cause delays. You’ll also need to know if the apartment manager requires a moving certificate.
  5. You’ll also need to contact your local municipality or police precinct about a week before you move into your new apartment to find out about parking to unload the moving truck. Parking permits can be obtained, but be aware they may have to be posted 72 hours prior to the move date.
  6. Last, but not least, inspect the moving truck and any loading dock for left behind belongings. Do this before the moving crew leaves so you can be sure you aren’t missing anything.
